This image of North Korean soldiers wearing massive platform heels was taken on Thursday while the “lady-guards” (who make up 10% of the North Korean army) patrolled the banks of the Yalu River.
A few theories for why the soldiers are required to wear the heels come to mind:
Is it for fashion?
Is it the only way women soliders can keep their femininity?
Are the women just too short to patrol in normal shoes?
Does it make them look more intimidating? (Answer: Hell yes.)
Take a look at what the men get to wear:
A nice pair of tekkies would have sufficed.
